These visas are for skilled workers who want to live and work in Australia independently or with state or regional sponsorship. You can apply for these visas if you have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list, and meet the points test, skills assessment, and other requirements.

Employer-sponsored visas (subclass 186, 187, or 482)

These visas are for skilled workers who have a job offer from an Australian employer. You can apply for these visas if you have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list, and meet the age, skills, and English language requirements. Your employer will also need to meet the sponsorship and nomination requirements.

Working holiday visas (subclass 417 or 462)

General Skill Migration Visas

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)

This visa is for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, a state or territory, or a family member. You can apply for this visa if you have an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), and meet the points test, skills assessment, and other requirements.

Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)

This visa is for skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory government. You can apply for this visa if you have an occupation on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) or the MLTSSL, and meet the points test, skills assessment, and other requirements. You will also need to live and work in the nominating state or territory for at least two years.

Skilled Regional visa (subclass 491 or 191)

These visas are for skilled workers who are sponsored by a state or territory government, or a family member living in a designated regional area. You can apply for the provisional visa (subclass 491) if you have an occupation on the STSOL or the MLTSSL, and meet the points test, skills assessment, and other requirements. You can then apply for the permanent visa (subclass 191) after living and working in a regional area for at least three years.
